Yellowstone National Park boasts a variety of ideal times to visit, with late April through May and September to early October being the most opportune. These shoulder months offer a pleasant climate, fewer crowds, and minimal road closures. While July and August are the peak months for visitors due to school breaks and favorable weather, the park is no stranger to chilly temperatures. In fact, even during the summer, higher elevation areas may see temperatures drop to the 30s. During winter, expect a range of temperatures from subzero digits to the high 20s. However, don’t let the cold deter you as the sight of steam plumes rising from beneath a thick blanket of snow and ice is truly awe-inspiring.
